SUMMARY:
After two members of The Freedom Front are arrested and interrogated by the UZTA’s tyrannical President Nicks, Rain Hawkins and her friends face the alarming reality that their plans to liberate the mixed zones across the United Zones of The Authority might not come to fruition. While the resistance movement is growing outside the walls of the zones, the president’s forces are strengthening and putting citizens everywhere in more peril than ever. When Rain receives warnings that her cousin, Calista, has agreed to support plans to kill the mixed zones, and that her life could be on the line at the upcoming pure zone initiation ceremony, she must decide where her loyalties lie and if all of her allies can be trusted. As The Freedom Front use their abilities to unravel the mystery of the ceremony, The Authority captures some of their friends, forcing TFF to either go into hiding, or plan a rescue mission that could jeopardize everything they’ve been fighting for.

REVIEW:
I have to praise the author for continuing her books in the right sequence, from the exact point where the previous one ended. This fourth book in the series is the longest of the series and could do with some editing in some places – at least that is what I felt, with the story needing to be as tight as it could be.
Nacreous – Exhibiting lustrous or rainbow like colours. From the title, the book raises the readers expectation. Rain is jailed – and her shock soon multiplies as she sees another prominent member of The Freedom Front pushed into the same cell with her. Has the revolution movement been collapsed, compromised perhaps, by a spy? Questions continue to plague Rain.
As the events unfold in quick succession, Rain suffers a lot – both from the haunting dreams and from the really uncontrollable twists and turns in the resistance movement. Nata is becoming unbearable and Rain is even captured and tortured. Everything seems bleak but a small force is still running strong, hoping for freedom.
The parts I enjoyed reading were Rain’s capture and the control of the German Shepherd dog. This was the best twisting moment of the book. The language, as usual, is good. But the book could have done with some more editing – even if it needs a closure for the series. Overall, a good finale to the series. But for lovers of dystopian, there are a few unmistakable similarities.
Nice conclusion to a racy series. Special mention to the author for the poem dedicated to Rain and Jabari, and the list of meanings behind the names.
VERDICT: Fitting Finale.
RATING: 4/5
