INTERNATIONAL AUTHORS DAY : BLOG HOP AND GIVEAWAY!

Organised and hosted by b00k r3vi3ws blog!
THE LOST ART OF READING!
Reading – a single, simple word that carries more weight based on the perspective in which it is used. You can ‘read’ almost anything. The top ‘reading activity’ that might come to one’s mind when we see the word is ‘reading the newspaper’. Sadly, it also happens to be the standard, bland response most children nowadays come up with when asked about their hobbies. It gives original readers and bookworms a sad realisation that they are a rare species – those people others should approach with hesitation and caution. Either for the fear of having their ears blasted off in a unsuspecting, totally unintentional lecture of sorts about their favourite book (or the one in their currently reading list) or for the pure cluelessness of having to deal with what would mostly sound like Greek and Latin.
True readers are those rare people who actually derive pleasure from reading the words printed on paper (or electronic devices nowadays) and constructing the magical scenarios in their heads. These people tackle ‘reading’ as an art, a slow sensual romance between them and the book they read. Most often, you will find these people at the local bookstore, thumbing through copies of books to find that one book that would capture their heart. They will serenade with the shelves, trying to locate that title they have been wanting to read for some time now or maybe for that single elusive title that might immediately capture their attention and thereby their soul.
Then once the book is located, begins the actual process of enjoying. It usually starts with the admiration of the cover and the title (yes, even though we don’t buy or reject a book solely based on its cover, it still plays a vital role) then the attention moves towards the book’s summary. It is a slow seduction as the reader then begins familiarising with the book. The necessary ‘get to know’ routine – gently sliding fingers across the spine, admiring the lettering and the opening the cover itself, savouring the smell (new book or old book smell, they each have their own charms) and then slowly reading the title and the description word by word.
Once the ‘reading’ actually starts, the reader enters into a world of their own. From then on, they are with the characters, delving into the pages and becoming one with the characters. The words seem to possess a magical quality as they broaden the minds and create worlds that wouldn’t otherwise exist. For in each written word, a tale is told and in each chapter of a book a new perspective dawns. Reading is a pleasure – it is magical.
To encourage more people to take up reading and to show our support to the original magicians – the authors, to continue writing more such awesome books, we are celebrating ‘International Authors’ Day!’.

Bridges of Paris : A Promo

Book Description:

Bridges of Paris is a large-format coffee-table book, with over 350 original color photographs, which casts new illumination on the City of Light. The 37 bridges over the Seine River emerge as beautiful, historic destinations rather than unnoticed thoroughfares. The book features stunning portraits of each bridge as well as intimate riverside moments. Once you’ve experienced this river tour, you will never see Paris the same way again.

Living as a Parisian for a year, author Michael Saint James left his American lifestyle and spent his days and nights capturing images from over, on, beside and under the bridges of Paris. With over 30 years experience as a photographer, educator and world traveler, Michael immersed himself in French culture to search out his authentic artist self. The result is a visual treasure to share with everyone.

Author's Bio:

Michael Saint James’ artistic pursuits include award-winning book design, film editing, and sound recording, as well as his first love, photography. Saint James is a world traveler, having visited more than 50 countries - doing everything from photographing penguins in Antarctica to trekking the Himalayas.

As an educator with California teaching credentials, he has taught media production and technology arts as well as photography, art history and visual storytelling. He is an expert speaker on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Indeed, he walked in Vincent Van Gogh’s footsteps through the Netherlands, Belgium, and France in order to immerse himself in that troubled master’s vision.

The father of two grown children, Saint James once owned a café in Berkeley, California. He has bicycled from Las Vegas to Washington, D.C. and is rumored to play a mean blues harmonica.

Secrets of the Heart by Willow Sanders : Giveaway : $50 Amazon Gift Card / PayPal Cash!

SYNOPSIS

Secrets, Secrets are no fun.

Genevieve “Ivy” Hursch thought she was living the dream! As the newly appointed promotions director for a hot new Chicago station, she was certain she had the radio world wrapped around her well-manicured finger. Coupled with an exciting relationship with her perfect new boyfriend, Ivy was certain life couldn’t get any better. That is until a piece of old news threatens to take down her career.

Heartbreak, scandal, secrets, and lies send Ivy into a free fall of lost dreams and fractured relationships. How will unexpected advice allow Ivy to cope with a life that is less than perfect? Follow Ivy on a journey to discover the secrets of her heart.

Secrets of the Heart is a continuation from Dirty Little Secret. Many of characters and situations from Dirty Little Secret, reappear in Secrets of the Heart, but it can be read as a stand alone novel.

Suggested audience 18+ for mild romantic situations.

TEASER / EXCERPT
For such a lavish affair, the Lyric apparently had decided having easily accessible bars was not necessary. Forced to traverse nearly the entirety of the Hilton Ballroom to reach one of the two bars set up for the party, she decided to enjoy her drink at said bar, rather than shimmy between chairs back to her seat without spilling its contents.

“Vodka tonic, with a lime, please.” She waved a twenty at the overworked bartender, trying to bribe his attentions away from the gaggle of tuxedoed gentleman placing drink orders.

“So how long are we going to keep up this little charade, Ivy?”

Pete sidled up to the bar, invading Ivy’s personal space while she waited impatiently for the bartender to return with her vodka tonic.

“Pete.”

Her senses were all discombobulated. It was near impossible to keep a thought in her head when someone who smelled so good was standing so close. It wasn’t a cologne-type scent either, a fragrance displayed on the shelves at the local Macy’s. Pete’s scent was something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. He just smelled fresh, like his entire body had been laundered and hung out to dry on a beach somewhere on Cape Cod.

“Ivy.” Every time he said her name, with that amused chuckle behind the rumble of his voice, a euphoric bubble fluttered through her bloodstream.

“Why are you doing this to me?” There was no bite behind her objection, though she was positive that had been the directive from brain to mouth.

“Doing what?” Pete’s raised eyebrows and puppy-dog expression only further softened the fight she kept telling herself she possessed. He ran a finger down her cheek, and it took her digging angry half-moons into her palms to prevent her eyes from fluttering closed. “Expressing an interest in reigniting what we started in July at Venetian Night?”

“Started? Please, Pete, it was one night.”

One amazing night, filled with champagne and fireworks, bonfires and shared blankets, and barefoot running to Gold Coast apartments with beachfront access.

“Why do you keep giving me the slip?” Pete continued with that voice that could put a siren to shame. “We’re both available, attractive individuals. We clearly have a strong interest in each other given that you and I exchanged a whole lot more than phone numbers a few months ago, and yet every time I’m around you pretend you can’t stand me.”

Ivy couldn’t argue with him. Venetian Night had been magical. The event, which Chicago hosted each year for those individuals lucky enough to own luxury yachts within the city limits, put on a lakeside parade every year so those individuals who could only dream of owning such luxury could enjoy what had become an annual summer ritual. Ivy had insisted their radio station host a party lakeside, so their listeners and clientele could observe both the boat parade and closing fireworks in the comfort of an exclusive marina, instead of on blankets and beach chairs up and down Lake Shore Drive.

The promotion had gone off without a hitch; she’d been the toast of the event. Even Artie Goldsmith, the president of Summit Radio Group, had complimented her on how much revenue it had generated for their little cluster of radio stations. Of course, copious amounts of champagne had flowed that evening. A couple of bottles of Bollinger later and Ivy had woken up in her bed, tangled with Pete, after having her mind blown by his more than noteworthy talents between the sheets.

“You and I both know why we can’t do”—Ivy signaled wildly between the two of them, nearly knocking over the vodka tonic, which had finally appeared—“what we want to do because of a little thing we both signed called a non-fraternization agreement.”

“Oh, Queenie, discretion is my middle name. Who will know what we do behind closed doors?” Ivy felt the slight tug against her scalp as she watched Pete wrap a strand of her copper colored hair around his finger before letting it go. They both watched it bounce back into place before Pete continued, “Besides, we’ve already fraternized, so what is stopping us now?”

Every time Pete talked, Ivy’s sensible self decided to peace out and she was left in a strange half-world where the only thoughts in her head were how green Pete’s eyes were and how his voice did funny things to her bloodstream. Her toes curled at the remembrance of what they had done three months ago.

“Pete,” Ivy began, fighting to regain some coherent thought, “you seem to have a very misguided idea of the type of girl I am. July was a slip in judgment, and one too many sips of champagne, nothing more. If you think for one moment”—she leaned in to his ear so that only he could hear her—“that I am a booty call you can approach at your leisure for a roll in the sheets, you are sorely mistaken.”

About the Author

Willow has always had a penchant for weaving tales. Whether it was horror stories for her bunkmates during sleep away camp, or full blown novels, the written word is always something that Willow has been drawn to. After years of debating whether or not her stories were good enough to be seen by anyone other than people required by blood to tell her they enjoyed them, she has finally made the leap into self-publishing.

A Chicago girl born and raised, you will find that most of her stories are either based in, or somehow tie back to the city she knows and loves. Her loyalties lie on the North-Side, as she proclaims she is a Cubs fan, and a fan of anyone playing against the White Sox. She can also be found regularly rooting for the Illini, when she isn’t being forced by her husband to betray her loyalty to the Blue and Orange in favor of a weekend cheering on the Spartans.

When she isn’t writing (in the physical sense- as stories are always brewing in her head in some form), she can regularly be found feeding her coffee addiction at the Green Mermaid (otherwise known as Starbucks). She is also a voracious reader and is quite certain that there is a glitter encrusted picture frame bearing her headshot somewhere on the wall at Amazon that says “this woman pays our salary.” You can also find her frequently stalking Goodreads, Pinning, FaceBooking, or hanging out on the Twitter.

CHILDREN OF THE GODS : THE TALON PROJECT BY DARRYL OLSEN : BOOK TOUR AND GIVEAWAY!

** CHECK OUT THE HUGE GIVEAWAY TOO -  $200 in Gift Cards! **

SYNOPSIS

Some codes are best left secret.
What if I told you there existed a bible code. Not just any bible code but one capable of turning the Book of Genesis into the most technologically advanced epics ever told; would you believe me. Well thanks to one of the Cold War’s best kept secret, such a code does exist.
The Talon Project is an original bible code discovered by the world’s best and foremost scientist. This unique code turns the Book of Genesis and other ancient creation stories into the most technologically advanced epic ever conceived.
Not everybody is happy with the project going public. Will you believe in the code!

REVIEW

A Secret code that exists since biblical times. a code so ancient but capable of helping produce the most technologically advanced weapons and make the country who has the code a superpower. Detective Michael Cohen receives a different kind of request from an ex FBI agent. When he heeds to that request, he finds himself constantly followed and indirectly threatened at turns. When he learns from the grand old man about the Project Talon, he looks into it with skepticism and disbelief. But he gets a chance to meet the legendary but shadowy character who claims to have solved the code. What this person requests Michael to do forms the rest of the story.

This feels slightly sudden in the ending. There are a lot of loose ends that need to be explained. The story is a short 42 pages and feels like an extended prologue, but an interesting one at that. There is enough build up to create an anticipation as to what the story will be like. The reader is actually left searching for the remaining pages in the book. The writing is good and the story is creating enough anticipation to keep the reader engrossed. But without the explanatory (expected to be so) second part, this is like a tantalizing preview that hides more than it shows. Not as an individual book in itself.

International Authors' Day : Giveaway

Displaying b.jpg
Readers' Muse is proud to be a part of International Authors' Day Blog Hop hosted by Debdatta Sahay of b00k r3vi3w Tours. It’s a day (or a few days) to celebrate indie writers. This new yearly event is from Monday, July 14th to Friday, July 18th.

So what’s so special about reading? There are countless other apparently “Interesting” activities out there to “kill time “. Why pick up a book, snuggle into a corner and ready away? Why really?

Only a true reader will know the answer to that question! But beware; don’t dare ask them that on the face for they might as well throw a punch at you! (I would if asked:-P)

A Reader lives a hundred lives and dies a thousand deaths.  There can’t possibly be a better way to enjoy life than reading away beautiful books tucked in a corner. The smell of an old book can give you a high way better than alcohol can! The journey through a sea of emotions can never be unnerving for a reader for the book takes equal care of the reader though leaving them a changed and wise individual.
The journey of a reader through various books can’t possibly be described in words for the journey is a nothing short of a complex web of imagination woven by gifted souls sent by god himself in the form of a writers.

There is no poor writer or  good writer. Words can be twisted in N ways thereby producing different results. It all just depends on how beautifully a human can weave a tale by playing with words. Some fail to deliver that “perfect punch” while some do an astoundingly good job.

Wishing all such gifted souls An Happy International Authors’ Day!

To add some bling to this celebration, we are hosting a double giveaway.

Enter away to win a digital copy of Hamlet’s Ghost by Jane Tara (Open Internationally) & a Paperback copy of The Counterfeit Priest by Paul Cross (Open to Indian Residents ONLY)
